2022.01.27 22:50 Anonymous_Granny I still think about the plumber that unclogged my pipe 10 years ago

10 years ago my pipe got clogged and it pushed a huge amount of feces out of a drain in the backyard. A plumber came and I thought he would use some kind of tool to unclog the pipe.
Nope!
mf walked over the mountain of feces and shoved his hand into the drain and kept pulling stuff out. No gloves, no tools. Went in arm deep. I just stood there in shock. He then washed his arm with the garden hose. Didn't even ask for a soap.
Sometimes I think about him while trying to sleep. Last night was one of those nights.

2022.01.27 22:50 Master-namer- Famous people/celebrities should not be your heroes

By the term 'hero' here I signify somone whom you admire and respect across all domains and take credence of anything they say.
I believe famous people/celebrities should not be anyones hero. I don't mean that you shouldn't admire famous people for what they have achieved, definitely they deserve the admiration for their work, but only that, nothing more nothing less. For example I admire a lot of people be it Sean Carroll, Marie Curie, Roger Penrose, Edward Witten, Jacinda Ardern, Sanna Marin, Rosalind Franklin etc but only for their specific work and I take credence for their work in that domain only.
The danger is when people start making these people their role models and heroes, taking their every statement and work just at the face value. For example fans of Jordan Peterson, I mean this guy literally spews shit on whatever he wants and his fan defend him no matter what, this is where it gets problematic.
Now here I don't mean people shouldn't have heroes, you should, but choose your heroes among people you know be it your family, partner friends or colleagues. For example, my girlfriend is my hero, I know her inside out, her values, principles, opinions and flaws.

2022.01.27 22:50 elyse642 When did you guys start talking again?

I had my procedure 8 days ago, last night it had to be recauterized due to an arterial bleed. It makes sense that I’m super sore today after being intubated again.
Day 4 was the only day I could talk coherently despite the pain, but since day 5 I haven’t been able to talk, it hurts tooo much and sounds really bad. Wondering what others experiences have been like
